A Growing Up Hip Hop episode saw Eric confront Layzie Bone about his involvement in the Eazy-E documentary. The truth is, Layzie and Eazy-E go way back – to a phone audition which the late rapper never returned.

Layzie is one fifth of Hip Hop group Bone Thugs N Harmony, alongside Bizzy Bone, Wish Bone, Krayzie Bone, and Flesh-n-Bone. Now, he stars on the VH1 reality show to share his talents on the big screen, too.

Eazy-E was pretty much their hero, hence why he was often called the “Godfather of Gangsta Rap.” He led the group N.W.A and its label, Ruthless Records, which was the drive for Layzie and his fellow artists.

How did Eazy-E find Bone Thugs?

The group found a bus ticket back to Cleveland and met with Eazy after the show, this time auditioning for him in person. Eazy had never seen anything like it and signed the group on the spot.

However, it wasn’t the first time Bone Thugs had auditioned for the rapper. They had actually had a phone call with him before, in which he promised to give them a ring back. But that call never arrived.

However, that wasn’t the end of the Bone Thugs trying to get signed. Layzie and Bizzy Bone were able to get backstage after a concert in Cleveland, Ohio, and rap for DJ Yella and Eazy-E.

They then got a call to head to California, where they got signed to Ruthless Records and released their classic debut single “Thuggish Ruggush Bone.” In June 1994, the group released their Creepin’ On A Come Up EP, with Eazy E’s help.

Eazy-E and Layzie Bones

Eazy-E and Layzie Bones grew close shortly after he signed the Bone Thugs to his label. Several pictures taken during the last couple of years before Eazy-E died show them hanging out, mainly in front of DJ decks.

Peaking at No. 12 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and No. 2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, Creepin’ On A Come Up included hit single “Foe tha Love of $”, which featured a verse by Eazy-E.

Layzie Bone now regularly hangs out with Eazy-E’s son Lil Eazy-E – who refers to Layzie as his “big brother” – and co-stars on GUHH with his daughter, who goes by the name of ‘ReeMarkable’.

GUHH: Eric confronts Layzie Bone

Eric, aka Lil Eazy-E, appears upset that Layzie didn’t tell him he had a part in the documentary about his father Eazy-E. It comes after he previously said he was worried about the “Pandora’s box” making the film could open up.

Lil Eazy-E revealed he wanted to confront his “big brother” for holding out on him. Although the rapper’s son doesn’t want anything to do with the documentary,  Layzie explained he thought he knew about his involvement.

He said:

I just feel like, the last time we conversated at Pop’s grave. I go back and I didn’t realise Layzie was a part of the documentary. It’s nothing like that, it’s just more so a hurtful thing to say, why didn’t he share that with me? Why didn’t that come up in our conversation when we spoke about it?

Layzie Bone then revealed in a confessional that he would never withhold information from Lil Eazy-E, before adding that he reminds him of his father and respects him so much.
